The Piaget "Peppi Hendrix Award

In the year of our Lord 2004, The South Florida Gospel Music Awards was founded by the late Peppi Hendrix. It was created to give accolades to hard-working, dedicated Gospel musicians who, otherwise, would be deemed the unsung heroes in the Music Industry.

Each year since then, this prestigious awards ceremony grew and gained momentum becoming the event to attend on an annual basis. The SFGMA was well attended by the who’s who in the Gospel industry. It inspired upcoming artist to gain insight and meet and greet with those who could transform artists to super stardom. It also provided recognition to those who had long awaited the moment of the spotlight to shine in the craft they had long worked and honed. The workshops would provide the logistics necessary for a budding musician to evolve into a fully-manifested artist.

Tragically, in 2018, the founder of this creative innovation passed away and with his passing, the demise of The South Florida Gospel Music Awards seemed inevitable.

However, in that same year, one of the principle leaders Lynn Brown, President of the Broward Alliance Of Gospel Music Professionals decided to pick up the mantel and continue this event by taking it to unprecedented levels that had never been seen before.

The Marc Cooper Living Legacy Award

Since the day Pastor Marc Cooper asked his father, the late Elder Lenwood Cooper to anoint his hands, Pastor Cooper has always had a passion for ministry and God’s people. Having received his mandate from God, Pastor Marc Cooper, obediently fulfills his calling as Pastor of Upper Room Ministries of Miami Gardens (formally known as Cooper Temple).

Before accepting his call in 1995, Pastor Cooper served as minister of music at Cooper Temple COGIC for many years. It was during these years that his music ministry flourished and expanded into the areas of song writing, music production and the formulation of several groups and choirs, most notably, the Stellar Nominated Marc Cooper and Friends and the Stellar Award winning, Miami Mass Choir.

At the suggestion of Savoy Records’ Milton Biggham the Miami Mass Choir was founded in 1995 by leader, singer and composer Pastor Marc Cooper the Choirs’ debut album It’s Praying Time was released in 1997, followed by Just 4 You, in 2000. It would be 16 years until the next release, Live at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
